This blog is mainly to help me and Ron (my fabulous coach) keep track of what is going on in my training. Good days. Bad days. Successes and failures. Aches and pains. That sort of thing. But please come visit once in a while to see how we're getting on!

A learning experience at the Odense Marathon

27M incl Odense Marathon in 2.27.42 (8th)

Just a quick note while it's fresh in my head - crazy day at work on Monday and work to do on Sunday night in advance, so I'll have to keep it brief and regroup mentally in another 24 hours.

In a nutshell: it was an amazing day. An England vest. And my 3rd marathon. But the performance and time were disappointing to say the least.

I went out hard. Too hard it turned out. But I'm glad, I think, that I did. One of my tendencies in longer races, I had worried, was fear of pushing to0 hard. So it's good to know that I've done it.

I went out at 2.18 pace and ran with the leading Kenyan group for the first 5K. I knew from before 10K that I was working harder than I wanted. And my guts were upset from very near the beginning.

My splits were pretty shocking as a result. 6 minute positive split I think.

But I surviived, didn't cramp, or hit the wall and don't think I'll be injured. And gave every last drop.

I will learn from this and come back faster. Better runners have had worse days!
