This blog is mainly to help me and Ron (my fabulous coach) keep track of what is going on in my training. Good days. Bad days. Successes and failures. Aches and pains. That sort of thing. But please come visit once in a while to see how we're getting on!

Just one easy one today.

A good long tempo run on the Heath

17M am incl 14M medium-long tempo

I was feeling full of running beans again today, so I headed to the Heath for three laps of the National cross-country course. It was muddy. And fun.

Some solid K reps while Yasmin took Hana for a run

14M double; K rep session & recovery run
7M am incl 8x1K off 90s
7M pm recovery run

I ran a good K rep session around the track this morning while Yasmin took Hana for a run with the buggy. I squeezed in eight reps before she came back!

Six easy

6M am recovery run

Just six easy miles today.

Rest

No run today. Too much food to prepare and eat.

A gentle Christmas 14 mile site-seeing run

14M am easy run

I woke up early for no good reason and treated myself to a gentle 14 miler around some central London sights (the usual parks, then Buckingham Palace, Whitehall, Traf Square, a bit of the river and then home via Kings Cross). Not many other people were up, though I did see 4 other runners.

Sluggish mile reps

9M am incl 5x1M off 90s jog

I got up earlyish and ran five sluggish mile reps this morning. I felt really slow but saved myself the indignity of actually timing them. At least it was a session.

A bit windy for running with a buggy

11M double; recovery runs x2
7M am recovery run with buggy
4M pm recovery run with buggy

It was blustery today. My first run on the Heath was ok, even if Kenwood had been closed for safety reasons. My second was a misjudgement. It didn't seem too bad from inside. Lesson learnt.

A long run!

20M am easy long run

I miscalculated and ran a bit further than I had planned this morning. Down through Regent's and Hyde Parks to the river, across to Limehouse and back along the canal. It came out at just over 20 miles. I took it pretty easy. And enjoyed it.

A race!

9M pm incl 5M Met league cross-country race (29m28s; 45th; 10th Highgate)

I really enjoyed getting back to racing, even if I'm a bit sluggish right now. The thrill of the start line is just one of my favourite things. And I do love flinging myself down the muddy hill at Ally Pally!

I didn't have a clue where I was going to be fitness-wise, so settled into a cautious rhythm from the gun. I probably got it about right and slowly picked my way through the field.

The fields in Met league races are getting stronger and stronger, so it's hard too judge how far down I am on my pre-paternity leave form. Looking at the other people who are usually around me, I think I'm probably 30-60s down.

Two recovery runs

14M double; recovery runs x2
7M am recovery run with buggy
7M pm recovery run with buggy

I managed two runs today. The first into town for brunch at Honey & Co (and shopping). The second around the Heath.

Buggy fartlek on the Heath!

16M double; recovery run & fartlek with buggy
7M am recovery run with buggy
9M pm incl 30min hard running as part of fartlek with buggy

I ran a pretty good fartlek session with the buggy in the Heath today. I ran hard on the flat and ups and gently downhill. It included four ascents of Parliament Hill. The best loop for reps with the buggy is a 4min30s loop along the flat path past the track, then up the path to the top of the hill from the cafe. I could jog slowly down to the start of the loop again in 2min30s, which isn't disasterously long. The hill is a killer behind a buggy!

Rest

Another busy, runless day.

Tuesday, 17 December 2013

3 miles tempo

I had a busy day but had enough time to run flat out home Queens Square. A nice little sharpener.

Monday, 16 December 2013

Rest

No running. Busy.

Sunday, 15 December 2013

Cross-country tempo on the Heath

9M incl 7M cross-country tempo

I headed to the Heath and ran two big loops of the National cross-country course in my trail shoes. It was a goody. Firm enough to really go for it. Soggy enough to make it good fun!

Saturday, 14 December 2013

Six around the Heath

6M steady with buggy

Yasmin and I ran a bit faster around the same route on the Heath today. I'll call it a steady run.

Friday, 13 December 2013

Mile reps with the buggy!

16M double; two runs including a total of 6x1M with buggy
7M am recovery and 2x1M hard with buggy
9M pm incl 4x1M hard with buggy

I ran six mile reps with the buggy up and down my favourite section of the Embankment (Blackfriars to Westminster). I only got a few odd looks. I don't know how fast I was going, but something around 6min/M I think.

Recovery

8M recovery run with buggy

Just eight gentle buggy miles today. I'm feeling in need of a session.

More rest

I could have run today, but didn't manage to fit it in with our staycation plans.

Wednesday, 11 December 2013

Recovery

6M am recovery run with buggy

Just a short one around the Heath before heading to 'Rhyme Time'. I got a puncture(!) and got turned away from the rhymes for being late.

Tuesday, 10 December 2013

Recovery

8M pm recovery run with buggy

I'm back in London and reunited with my buggy! Hana and I had an appointment with 'mini-Mozart' this morning, so I only ran once. Around the Heath.

Monday, 9 December 2013

Several days of rest

Yasmin has been away at a conference and I've been away without the running buggy, so I've not run since Friday. I really need to get back to it...

Friday, 6 December 2013

Tempo!

9M incl 7M tempo

I finally managed a session. Seven miles hard up Swains Lain and up and down the road across top of the Heath. It's one of my current favourite routes.

I managed to find and maintain a good level of discomfort today. I think it was a good one.

Wednesday, 4 December 2013

More rest

Another day off - I'm still ill.

Tuesday, 3 December 2013

Rest

I'm brewing my cold again, so didn't run.

Monday, 2 December 2013

Recovery

8M am recovery run

I'm a bit ill, so I kept it easy today. Eight gentle miles around the Heath while Y looked after Hana and waited for some deliveries at home.

Sunday, 1 December 2013

Rest

We're having a staycation this week. I'll do some running, but not as much as usual.
